Order of Operations ExtraTopic: Exponents
If you know what exponents are and use them in equations then you need to do any exponents before you do multiplication and division:
* Go from left to right and do any equations that are inside parentheses.
* Start again from the left and go from left to right and do any exponents.
* Start again from the left and go from left to right and do any multiplication and division equations.
* Start again from the left and go from left to right and do any addition and subtraction equations.
Here's an example that has an exponent of 3 and a base of 2:
23 = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8
